Portland Limestone is a very nice stone to work with, apart from its pale chalky colour and texture, it is possible to achieve quite fine detail.

' al dente ' ( firm to the teeth) refers to the bony, toothy appearance of this particular piece, which also was to recur in  ' Molaris ' done at about the same time when I remember I was having a few dental problems. At the time I was interested in producing sculptures that had the appearance of compacted rock/fossil forms
