MONUMENT TO MANKIND

2002/03

This is my idea for the Humanitad organisation's ' Monument to Mankind ' event which was due to take place in January 2003 but has been postponed due to lack of funds.

The idea behind the event was to bring together stone-carvers from every country in the world to each carve a one metre cube of sandstone which would then be built up into a giant pyramid of sorts. The individual cubes of stone would have designs on them representing the myths, history and achievements of the country of origin of the artist.

In my design above, which was not accepted,  you can see I utilised a Celtic design for the top face, then individual faces each representing variously Shakespeare, Stonehenge, the theories of Darwin and Newton and even Robin Hood!
