Seeing and believing 2005 |
|||
This photo records the completed self-portrait bust I worked on from 2001 to 2005. The photo expresses a more emotional aspect to the carving with the addition of water to the stone, a temporary act that can transform the meaning of the sculpture.
I think it is fairly open to interpretation though, with everyone instilling their own meanings, am I expressing my sadness? do I feel like a zombie or a clown?, is it possible to believe what you see all the time?, or any of the time?
Or is it a miraculous event, like so many of those weeping Madonnas. Maybe, more prosaically, water just makes the eyes and mouth more expressive on a stone face.
