This sculpture was commissioned by Chorlton Arts Festival 2006 to be installed on the Chorlton Ees Art Trail, a trail of contemporary artworks around Chorlton Ees park in Manchester. My idea was to create a quixotic sculptural gesture to freshen up the natural environment, my 'tree fresheners' having the genuine aroma of actual wood (albeit re-constituted). I was also trying to poke fun at the iconography of little tree air-fresheners in cars and I thought it would look interesting to have little tree shapes hung up in actual trees.
